There’s a place where spaceships go to die. It’s a real spot in the middle of the ocean, carefully chosen for that exact reason. It’s as far away from land as possible from all directions. That makes it relatively safe to crash spaceships and satellites there. We’ve been burying spacecraft for decades now on that exact spot, and it’s where the International Space Station will eventually go to die.
Extrapolating from that fact, there’s no reason to think that we won’t still be doing that in the future. What if an alien spaceship crashes down there, but is too stubborn to stay buried? That’s the short story Where a Spaceship Goes to Die.
